Restyling of Starhotel “Splendido”

Restricted competition.
The restyling of the hotel intends to match a contemporary language to the architectural tradition of Milan, characterized by a solid, sober and orderly image - but by no means monotonous. Order and solidity are suggested through the use of stone coatings and a steel grid that organizes the façades. Variety expresses itself in the irregular position of openings, as well as in the plants that animate the several levels of the roofs – a tribute to the custom, so frequent in Milan, of setting terrace gardens on the attics. Moreover it expresses itself in the big opalescent screen, made with plexiglass, that has been conceived as a “light waterfall” over the facade towards the railway station.
